Do your business clients need help reporting Tax Free Weekend sales?
With Tax Free Weekend in the rearview mirror, you might have questions about how to report your clients’ exempt sales. Here are some tips:
- Enter the amount of exempt sales made during the Sales Tax Holiday as a deduction on the State Sales and Use Tax Worksheet of their August Sales Tax Return.
- When filing on MyDORWAY, click the View/Edit State Deductions button under Item 4. Select Sales Tax Holiday exempt sales as the deduction type and enter the deduction amount.
- If filing a paper return, enter Sales Tax Holiday in Item 4, Column A and the amount of deduction in Column B.
- Remember, the Sales Tax Holiday deduction code is only allowed on the August Sales Tax return, due in September.
- The easiest way to file and pay Sales Tax and manage all of your clients’ South Carolina tax accounts is through MyDORWAY. For tips and tutorials to help you get started, visit dor.sc.gov/MyDORWAY.
Do your individual clients need help locating a missing refund?
If your client’s South Carolina Individual Income Tax refund never arrived in their mailbox or bank account, it’s easy to report it as missing and request a replacement.
First steps to take if you suspect your client’s refund is missing:
- Verify that their refund was issued using the SCDOR’s Where’s My Refund tool at dor.sc.gov/refund.
- If their direct deposit refund was issued, but they have not received it, they should contact their financial institution.
- If their refund status shows that their refund check was issued more than 30 days ago, they can report their refund as missing.
- If their refund status does not show that their refund was issued, we may still be processing their return.
- Your client also can request a replacement refund if their original refund check was lost, stolen, or destroyed before they could deposit it.
MyDORWAY is the fastest, easiest way to request a replacement refund:
- If your client has a MyDORWAY account…
- Scroll to their Individual Income Tax account and click More Account Options.
On the next screen, select Report a Missing Refund. - You can request a direct deposit refund by entering your client’s bank account and routing numbers.
- You can also report a missing refund using the SC3911, Individual Income Tax Refund
- Scroll to their Individual Income Tax account and click More Account Options.
- Tracer paper form, available at dor.sc.gov/forms, though using MyDORWAY is the fastest way to receive a replacement refund.
Allow up to six weeks for the SCDOR to process your request and issue your client a replacement refund.
